AUBREY G. CONNORS Cadet Aubrey G. Connors was stationed on the Liberty Ship SS Robert Gray. The Robert Gray was a steam ship built in her homeport, Portland, OR. The Waterman Steamship Company in Mobile, AL later hired her. Cadet Connors boarded her in New York as part of Convoy HX-234. The ship was carrying war supplies to the European campaign. The convoy left New York on April 12, 1943 but was straggling behind the next day. On the night of April 13 she was torpedoed by the U-boat, U-306 (von Trotha), never to be heard from again. There were no survivors. She carried a crew of 39 men and 23 Naval Armed Guard. |
