ALLEN
MILLER
January 9, 1943, the crew of the SS Louise Lykes made it’s trip
back to the New York with vital military supplies. Though the trip was curtailed
by an attack from a German ship. Torpedoed in the North Atlantic, the ship was
never to reach it’s destination. Twenty-four Naval Armed Guards, ten US Army
personnel, and 50 of the crewmembers, one including Allen Miller died on that
infamous morning. As a Midshipman from the United States Merchant Marine
Academy, the inexperienced Allen Miller had no hopes for survival in the massive
chaos that would end in a fire destruction of life.
He and the other 142 members of the USMMA will be remembered for their
bravery and dedication to America. They will be missed and never forgotten.
Allen Miller will be an example for many to follow.
