CARL A. BRANDLER

    Carl A. Brandler's rank was cadet (E).  He was working on the ship SS Munger T. Ball, which was owned by The Sabine Transportation Co. of Port Arthur, Texas.  The master of the ship was Karl Ragnar Olsen (Lost).  The gross tonnage of the ship was 5104.  The Munger T. Ball was built in 1920 at Savannah, GA.  The dimensions were  392’x51’x30’.  The Munger T. Ball was hit by a torpedo amidships on the port side.  30 seconds later another torpedo hit.  The German submarine surface and directed machine gun fire at the SS Munger T. Ball.  The tanker ship was sunk in about 15 minutes.  Men died by explosion, machine gun fire, and drowning.  There were four survivors.  The German submarine, Schacht, was bombed and sunk off the coast of Brazil in 1943.  There were no survivors.
