GEORGE E. GUILFORD Cadet George E. Guilford was an engine cadet aboard the SS La Salle. On November 7, 1942, 350 miles southeast of Cape of Good Hope, South Africa, the ship was torpedoed. The German sub U-159 fired on the SS LaSalle at 2050. The CDR of the sub reported that the ship was atomized. Flying debris injured 3 men on watch aboard the sub. The explosion was heard 300 miles away. No one survived the incident. |
