VINCENT CORRIGAN 

    Cadet Vincent Corrigan was an engineering major at the United States Merchant Marine Academy that died aboard the Liberty Ship, SS Charles C. Pinckey, on January 27, 1943. The ship was destroyed by a the German Submarine U514 at 2154 GCT about 200 miles of Pico, Azores while en route from New York to a North African port with cargo of munitions and heavy mechanized equipment. The sub fired two torpedos at the ship blowing of the bow just back of the forward end of the first hold.  After the crew abandon ship only one out of the three lifeboats were found, unfortunately Vincent Corrigan was not among the fourteen that were rescued but of the fifty-nine that were lost at sea.
