WARREN
P. MARKS
Cadet Marks served on the liberty ship SS Timothy Pickering. The Pickering was anchored at Avola, Sicily, carrying general cargo. Forty-three merchant crew, twenty-three Naval Armed Guard, and 126 British troops were on board. On July 13, 1943, German Stuka bombers bombed the ship and sank it. Twenty-one crew, eight Naval guards, one hundred soldiers, and Cadet Marks were killed during the attack. In honor of Cadet Warren P. Marks, a liberty ship was named after him. |
